Zordane, he was a brindle Great Dane and I was ten years old.
Danes were always a part of our family while growing up.
Not as show or breeding prospects but as members of the
family
(along with the cats, raccoon and skunk). I could not imagine
living without a Dane! Over the years, these gentle giants
have
graced my home and filled my heart with joy and laughter while at the
same time causing immense pain and heartache when their lives come to
an end. Each one was unique and shared their own special
characteristics. Each one carries a piece of my heart.
Bob, my Dane and I married in 1985. He soon came to realize my passion for this special breed. In 1986 we went to see a litter of harlequins. The breeder asked if we were interested in "showing". Ummmmm........... never thought of it. Bob fell in love with a little harly girl which became the foundation of Miskre - Ch. Afagarth's Miskre Mystical. "Mysty" produced one litter and so the journey begins....................
The last twenty-one years and four litters have brought a wonderful assortment of Danes and friends into our home and our hearts. Our first born male, Thor, took us on the ride of our lives. Thor - BIS Ch. Miskre's Omnipotent Tonare, Am/Can CD, TT, CGC was the ultimate Great Dane. A gentleman with a kind heart and gentle soul. He was so easy to live with - so easy to love. His show career was spectacular. Thor was specialled by Bob - they were truly a team! Thor is the only Canadian black to ever win an All Breed Best in Show.
Every one of our Danes has been unique. Each one with his own special characteristics. The comedian, the silly, the serious, the cuddler. Each one was precious and each one was so very deeply loved. One Dane was extremely special. My "Zyka" - Ch. Miskre's Krona of Keymaster, CGC and I had a bond that was so powerful. How I loved that dog. He was 219 pounds of pure kindness and gentleness. He loved everyone and everyone loved him. He was truly my soul mate. He passed away in 2004 at nine years of age. I still miss him terribly. He is always in my heart and thoughts. Today, we are enjoying his great nephew, "Tiamo" and I know that Zyka is watching over with his gentle soul and kind eyes.
We breed, raise and show Great Danes as a passionate and serious hobby and NOT as a business. Bob and I are both educators. Bob a secondary school Principal and myself a past Guidance Counsellor and now Family Studies/ Co-Op Teacher. We compete both in conformation and obedience (CAN/ US/ UKC). We are members of CKC, AGDF and GDCC.
